The Ride for Jase is a bid to raise awareness for depression and anxiety disorders, which Ben Wood’s brother, Jase, lost the battle to on the 17th of November 2015. Like most suffering from mental illness, Jase was able to hide his struggle from those who knew and loved him. This June 2017, Ben will take it upon himself to raise awareness for these mental illnesses and the prevention of suicide by cycling between 18,000 and 20,000 kilometres around Australia, passing through every state and region – which was Jase’s dream before he passed.

Ben will attempt to complete the trip in six months, taking Jase’s ashes with him all the way. Ben has said himself that if the Ride for Jase gets people talking about mental health and suicide prevention, or at least helps a few people to look out for their loved ones better, then every kilometre will have been worth it. The trip will be documented and marketed all in a bid to get people talking about mental illness. Ben has received over 30,000 dollars to help fund his trip to raise awareness as well as donate toward the Black Dog Institute, a charity dedicated to understanding and preventing mental illness.
