Get ready to catch some waves at the 2017 Australian Longboard Surfing Open. From March 16 to 19, professional and amateur surfers will be heading to Australia’s hidden gem – Kingscliff to display their amazing surfing talent.
The Australian Longboard Surfing Open is the only World Surf League sanctioned longboard event on the country’s east coast. It is held every March in the clean and warm green waters at Kingscliff. But in 1984, the surfing event was just an excuse for surfers to meet. Not only that, the contest was also designed differently. But with the simple idea of meeting up and having fun in the waves, the event brought in several surfers including surfing legends from the 50s and 60s.
At present, the Australian Longboard Surfing Open is a four-day event that celebrates the surfing lifestyle, drawing several longboard surfing superstars. If you’re a real surfing enthusiast, join the festivities and get the chance to meet World Champion Rachael Tilly, as well as former Champions Taylor Jensen and Harley Ingleby. Learn from the best and be inspired by surfers striving to be next World Champions.
Moreover, don’t miss the action at the World Surf League Longboard Qualifying Series, International Tag Team Challenge and the amateur divisions. Make sure you also catch the most exciting surfing displays at the Specialty Division which includes Noseriding.
See surfers perform the art of modern noseriding with radical manoeuvres such as hanging heels. For some traditional manoeuvres, the logger division will be showcasing just that. But that’s not it as you also get to travel back in history with the division’s retro surfing. For the most aggressive longboard disciplines, the 8ft division will be filled with 360’s and power surfing.
The Specialty Division also features the Wacky Wave Warrior. Surfers will be wearing the wackiest outfit while catching some waves. All entry fees for this special event will go to mental health initiatives. If you want to support this good cause, entries for the 2017 Australian Longboard Surfing Open are now being accepted.
Don’t miss the sun, surf and other activities such as surf vehicle display, bikini parades, live music, outdoor cinema, and market stalls. Plan your trip to the world class surfing destination this March by arranging your Kingscliff luxury accommodation at The Beach Cabarita.
The Cabarita Beach Resort is just a few minutes from Lions Park, Marine Parade in Kingscliff. Book your rooms today!
